Creative Collaborations to Enrich Community
Founded in 1994, TROSA is a nonprofit organization in Durham that provides a comprehensive two-year residential program for individuals recovering from substance abuse. In addition to learning to live free of their addictions, TROSA gives residents the opportunity to advance their education, gain vocational skills, improve their interpersonal skills, and learn how to re-enter the larger community.
An important part of TROSA's program is the opportunity its residents have to develop professional skills, work ethic and sense of responsibility through working in one of TROSA's vocational training businesses, such as Moving, Lawn Care and others, as well as the organization's internal departments. Most of TROSA's clients have struggled with addiction to drugs or alcohol for more than ten years and many have a criminal record. TROSA serves nearly 400 individuals every day, including over 300 residents in the two-year program, as well as over 70 in transitional housing.
"The Community Chest, Inc. gratefully acknowledges TROSA for their volunteer support for 2007. Their willingness to support our unique community initiative exemplifies their convictions of serving others in need in various levels and depth. Thank you very much."
